Accounting Manager

$400M agricultural company, moving into consumer products, is seeking an Accounting Manager to become a key member of the department. This position is open due to a recent promotion.

The Accounting Manager will provide hands-on technical accounting leadership and work with the Controller and Assistant Controller in developing all aspects of accounting and financial reporting internally and externally.

The company has been experiencing solid growth through acquisitions and is now ready for significant expansion.

Responsibilities include:

• Lead the monthly financial close process of consolidated financial statements on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.
• Responsible for preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual journal entries, flux analysis and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
• Responsible for accurate recording of financial transactions in accordance with GAAP and Company policies.
• Lead, manage and develop a collaborative team of accounting professionals and oversee their day-to-day activities.
• Responsible for training, developing, coaching, evaluating and providing feedback for the Accounting department.
• Lead cross functional accounting projects; define, implement and maintain processes and procedures.
• Work with other departments to foresee potential accounting issues and recommend practical solutions associated with business transactions.
• Participate in discussions with business teams to assess the financial accounting treatment of new, emerging or changing business activities.
• Respond to inquiries from CFO, Controller and other Company-wide managers regarding financial results and reporting.
• Assist in the preparation and review of accounting policies and procedures.
• Continuously identify opportunities for process improvements, internal controls and automation in the month-end close process and successfully implement these improvements.
• Responsible for SOX compliance within related area, including executing on key controls and supporting testing efforts.
• Assist the Assistant Controller in management of quarterly reviews and annual audit with the external auditors.
• Assist in the preparation and review of supporting schedules for SEC filings, including 10Q and 10K.

Qualifications include:

• 5 – 7 years of relevant work experience in public accounting (preferably Big 4) and / or a manufacturing organization.
• 2+ years of accounting / financial reporting managerial experience.
• Experience with JD Edwards or equivalent-level ERP system.
• Cost accounting and experience with standard costing is preferred (manufacturing industry experience).
• Strong project management and process improvement skills; proficiency with spreadsheet and presentation software.
• Ability to work in a cross-functional, rapidly changing environment, and to lead and drive complex initiatives.
• Attention to detail, organized and thorough with desire for continuous improvement.
• Highly effective communication skills (verbal and written).
• Excellent analytical skills, combined with impeccable business judgment and ability to communicate with management.

A CPA or equivalent is required for this role.
