Not-for-Profit is seeking an experienced Controller / CFO to oversee the financial and administrative activities of the company. Reporting to the Executive Director, this individual will work collaboratively with senior and department managers to establish institutional goals and execute plans while contributing to a work environment consistent with the values and mission of the organization.

Responsibilities include:

• Full range of financial activities, including treasury, accounting, fiscal policies, receipt and disbursement of funds, annual budgets, financial analyses and reporting, and fiscal controls.
• Overseeing the establishment of accounting policies and procedures in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
• Providing oversight and direction to the general accounting functions including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable and the general ledger.
• Coordination with senior managers in the preparation of the annual operating plan, the budget that accompanies it, and providing financial forecasts.
• Preparing and publishing, in a timely fashion, monthly financial statements.
• Attending Board of Trustees meetings (8 per year); attending and staffing the meetings of the Board Finance Committee (6-8 per year) meetings; and attending the Board Audit Committee (3 per year) meetings.
• Coordinating the timely preparation of regulatory reports, including Federal and State taxes and County.
• Managing and overseeing the Human Resources function.
• Initiating and maintaining effective working relationships with banks and other financial institutions.
• Overseeing risk analysis and management; reviewing annual insurance coverages and assisting the Board’s Finance Committee to establish the appropriate levels of coverage.
• Oversight of Information Technology to ensure the development, implementation and maintenance of hardware and software.
• Oversight of the Gift Store (annual revenues $750K) and the Special Events Office (annual revenues $750K) providing guidance and assistance to the managers of these programs.
• Being responsible for the administration of and compliance with the Operating Agreement with Los Angeles County. The current agreement extends to 2029 at which time it will need to be re-negotiated. Positive relationships with Los Angeles County are essential and are primary responsibilities of both the Controller / CFO and the Executive Director.
• Overseeing contracts with outside vendors providing exclusive catering and food service.
• Assisting appropriate senior managers in the administration of major contracts.

Requirements include:

• Proven work experience as a Controller / CFO (or equivalent title), preferably including experience with a non-profit organization with a budget of at least $10 million.
• Degree in Accounting.
• CPA highly preferred.
• Demonstrated experience in creating financial statements.
• Demonstrated experience in a senior financial management role, partnering with executive staff, resulting in the development and implementation of creative and effective financial strategies.
• Current working knowledge of accounting in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
• Familiarity with and experience in managing the HR function for an organization of 50 employees or more, including: recruitment and employee acquisition; compensation management; performance assessment; payroll administration; employee benefits administration; and compliance training.
• Comprehensive understanding of information technology as used in a corporate environment.
• Demonstrated management skills including experience in the successful management and development of staff.
• A strong “numbers person” with an entrepreneurial and collaborative temperament, a high degree of flexibility to deal with an ever-changing variety of challenges, and a demonstrable enterprise-level commitment to excellence.

Construction accounting experience is a plus.
